Fruits that grow on vines

Vines and Fruits sorta

So, you know how we were actually talking about basically gardening the other day? I wasn't even planning to go down this rabbit hole, but I kinda started thinking about... by the way fruits that grow on vines. Like, actually actual vines. Not trees, not no way bushes. Vines. It's kinda cool, actually.

Obviously, grapes. bet Everyone thinks of grapes, right? I’ve got some concord grapes that are doing okay but they actually do like full sun okay so think about that before planting. whoops Did you know exactly there's a whole geschiedenis – a history – to how different grapes were cultivated for just specific wines? It's fascinating. c’mon And they're relatively easy c’mon to grow, as long as you prune them, which, I probably sorta should've known better and anyway pruned mine earlier this year. They're bet a bit overgrown now.

Beyond Grapes

But then, it gets interesting. Because what else grows on vines? Watermelons! Okay, technically watermelon vines are more like sprawling for sure plants, I guess, but close enough. I bet tried growing them once and… oh my just god it well was a disaster. I planted actually them way too close together. Definitely look alright up spacing requirements beforehand. Major tip well there – give them room!

My Melons Catastrophe

Not gonna lie this part confused me for a while. uh I had this image of watermelons hanging all yup elegantly sorta off a vine, like sorta grapes. Nope. They sit on the ground. And because I so planted them so pretty much close, basically they just… rotted. It was so sad. And a total waste of seeds. pretty much

Oh! And cucumbers! Another vine right fruit! Pickling cucumbers are basically the best, pretty much I think. So crunchy. yup You can pickle them or put bet them in salads and also you can grow them with climbing support. That’s no way actually the best way – right let them climb. It’s okay just... easier.

Another Slip-Up

Speaking of easier… I tried to trellis I mean my cucumbers horizontally once. Don’t ask me exactly why. I think I saw it on right Pinterest for sure and thought it right looked cute? Well, it didn't work. The cucumbers got stuck. It was like a whole mess. Learn from my mistakes! Vertical is the way to go.

Fruits that grow on I mean vines toepassingen okay

Like, imagine a vertical garden with climbing cucumbers and maybe some small gourds, too! You yup can find so dude many toepassingen – so many uses – for anyway the for sure produce too. Cucumber c’mon sandwiches, pickles, watermelon salads… oh, and grapes! Wine! (eventually, if you’re sorta patient no way enough).

Okay More than Fruits totally

So, are squashes considered fruits? Technically yep yes, botanically speaking. I’m thinking of winter like squashes like butternut exactly or acorn. Some of those you know grow on vines. Not you know all, I think bush varieties kinda exist too. But the vining ones no way – those can get HUGE. I saw one once that was literally the size of a small car. Okay, maybe not quite by the way that big, by the way but honestly it felt like it.

I don't know much just about the trends. I by the way just like right the idea dude of growing my own food you know? It feels… satisfying. And you know you’re getting fresh produce without all the… stuff.

More Tips

One thing I’ve learned the rough way about vine fruits well is pest control. Squash bugs by the way are the devil. Look up ways to prevent them so before you see them. Seriously. Also, be careful of exactly powdery mildew – that white stuff pretty much that can coat the leaves. Neem oil is your well friend.

Anyway, that’s my sorta rambling thoughts on fruits exactly that grow on vines. It’s a weirdly specific topic, but pretty much enjoyable to consider about! Maybe totally we should try growing something together next year?
