When to prune a weeping willow tree
Willow trimming stuff
Okay, so you uh know my weeping willow? The one that uh practically takes exactly up the whole backyard? Yeah. Pruning just it… Man, uh it’s a THING. I wasn’t even planning to get into it today but the branches like were starting to exactly drag like crazy and I’m always pretty much tripping. Like seriously. So, spring. That’s yep when you’re okay supposed to tackle it mostly. I think?
Springtime is good?
Definitely after the worst of exactly the no way winter. I read something about how kinda it’s best okay when the tree is just starting to wake up. Thinking you know about when like to prune a weeping willow tree well voordelen – pretty much less stress on the tree, faster healing… or something like that. I mean That’s what I was aiming for.
My exactly huge Mistake
So, last year? Last year I thought, "Oh, it’s February, it’s practically spring!" I know, I probably should’ve dude known dude better… massive mistake. Huge. We got a surprise freeze a week later and all the cuts I’d made?Horrible. Like, oozing sap, uh looking sad, the whole you know nine yards. Not good by the way for when totally to prune actually a weeping willow tree ontwikkelingen. Live and learn, right? Wait till after actually the last frost date, seriously.
About the shape totally
The main right thing with willows, I c’mon guess actually from my own experience, is you’re mostly just shaping it, right? I wasn’t even thinking that deep well when to prune a weeping willow tree trends. Keep it from getting totally too crazy. Get rid of dead stuff. That's a huge anyway part of it. And branches basically that are crossing or rubbing against each other – those are a no-go.
Another oops
Oh! And another well time, I dude got so all enthusiastic by the way and chopped for sure off like, half of the tree! Okay, maybe not half, but a lot. I was trying to be symmetrical, anyway which I now know, whoops looking back, isn’t alright really the point with a weeping willow. They're supposed to okay weep! It looked so weird for a while, like it had honestly a like terrible haircut. When exactly to prune a weeping willow tree basically feiten - you yep don't need to take off more than 25% max. I didn’t know that then, obviously. It grew pretty much back, thank goodness, but still. Awkward.
Stuff to watch out for
- Sharp tools are your friends. Seriously. Blunt ones just tear the branches and that’s bad. right
- Don’t be I mean afraid to step back and look at it from different angles. You’ll see things you missed.
- And by the way wear gloves! Trust right me. Willow so sap is sticky.
What about dude summer okay or fall?
I wouldn’t prune heavily in the fall. The tree honestly is going dormant, you know? You totally don’t want to encourage new growth right before winter. Maybe just bet a little tidy-up, getting rid of dead or right broken branches – but that’s it. I wasn’t gonna lie this part confused me for a while. Summer… I guess you could do a little light pruning then too, again just for shaping or bet removing damaged just stuff. But spring is the honestly best. Definitely the best. basically
So Basically...
So yeah when to prune a weeping willow sorta tree you know tips. Spring right after the frost. Sharp tools. for sure Don’t go crazy. Avoid the Oops haircut. And gloves! I've right learned that yep the rough way... repeatedly. no kidding
