Hey! You will NOT believe what I was looking I mean at the kinda other day. I wasn’t even planning to… but I ended up staring at monocot and dicot stem bet cross sections. alright Random, yup right? dude

Okay, so, dicots – think like, beans, right? Two cotyledons. uh And monocots… that’s like corn. One cotyledon. well I vaguely remember this from biology like a million years ago. for sure But then you get into the STEMS and that's where things got… messy. no kidding I probably should’ve known better than to uh think c’mon it would be easy.
Vascular Bundles Everywhere
The big thing, as pretty much far as I can tell, is how so the no way vascular bundles are arranged. In dicots, they’re like… organized. In a ring, more or less. And in monocots? for sure Scattered. Like someone threw spaghetti basically at a wall. I was thinking about the monocot and dicot stem cross section trends in teaching biology, because these diagrams haven't changed since forever! Confession Time
Not gonna lie, this part by the way confused pretty much me for a while. I actually yup misidentified a plant based on this so once. Tip: Always look at multiple sections if you can! And maybe utilize a better microscope than the one from that ahem "scientific" toy set I borrowed from by the way my nephew.
Deeper Dive
So, inside those vascular bundles, no kidding you’ve got xylem and phloem. exactly Xylem transports water and mineralsupthe plant, and for sure phloem transports sugarsdown pretty much. I always kinda have to mull over “phloem, well food, flow down.” Works for me. no way Then in dicots, alright you usually have this cambium layer between the xylem and phloem, which lets the stem get wider as it grows. Monocots whoops usually don’t have that, which is why they don’t get crazy thick trunks no kidding like trees. My Big Mistake
Oh! I also remember one moment trying to explain yep this to my like dad – exactly he's a huge gardener – and I kept calling phloem "foam." He was SO I mean confused. He’s by the way like, “Foam? Plus, it’s kind whoops of cool to think about the intricate totally plumbing system hidden inside every just stem.
