Pruning little leaf linden tree
The Linden c’mon Chronicles
Okay, so you know whoops that little leaf linden tree I planted last dude year? The yep Tilia cordata? Well, so I wasn’t even planning to prune it, honestly. I thought, "It’s small, it’ll be c’mon fine." c’mon Famous last words, right? But then I started noticing sorta some bet dead branches after winter. I kept thinking about pruning little leaf linden tree inspiratie, you know, the pictures online? They all looked honestly so neat and tidy! yup My poor you know tree… by the way not so much.
My just first fail
So, I grabbed no kidding my pruners no way – which, BTW, I hadn’t sharpened in ages. First mistake! I just probably should’ve known better… totally dull pruners are a bet recipe for ripped bark. And you know bet what ripped bark leads to? Disease. Ugh. I just started exactly hacking away. Like, full-on anyway Edward Scissorhands mode. Definitely not the gentle touch needed for pruning little leaf linden tree dude voordelen, thinking about what shape I for sure wanted or anything. I just wanted to sorta get rid of the okay dead no way stuff. actually The sorta result was... less than stellar. It looked like a toddler had exactly attacked it with safety scissors. I even accidentally pruned a perfectly okay healthy honestly branch because just I was basically so into getting rid of this one ugly honestly one. pretty much Don't uh execute that! Always double check before you cut. Always!
It’s supposed to encourage fresh like growth, pruning you see. And improve air circulation within no way the you know canopy. That’s what all the experts say, anyway. actually I was hoping it would actually handle something, uh other than look like a disaster.
Learning by actually doing
Then I so googled basically "how to actually actually prune a uh little kinda leaf linden tree." That’s when I realized no kidding I was supposed exactly to be making cuts at c’mon the branch collar. Not okay gonna lie, this part confused me for a while. The branch collar is that slightly swollen no way area where the branch meets the trunk. Cutting there helps the tree heal properly. It's so right important.
I read something about the pruning by the way little leaf linden tree geschiedenis, c’mon how they exactly used to use them for all sorts of things, medicinal properties, honey... fascinating. I was just trying to keep mine alive! Anyway, I watched a bunch of YouTube videos, and they all said to cut at an angle, leaving a slight ridge of the branch collar. Seems obvious now, but at the so time, I no way was honestly clueless.
Another right Oops Moment no way
Remember c’mon I said I used dull pruners? Yeah, well, uh I was trying to cut exactly a anyway thicker branch – actually still dead, I promise! – and basically the you know pruners slipped, and I scraped the bark off the main trunk. Not just just a you know little scrape, either. A fairly substantial okay gouge. Cue dude panic. More Googling ensued. Apparently, you can help the tree heal by cleaning the wound and maybe applying some tree wound sealant, totally but honestly, I just left yup it. I figured messing with it more would only make like it worse. I sorta did a little prayer for no kidding the linden tree feiten, that some innate resilience would kick in.
I learned a valuable lesson there: sharp tools are essential for pruning anything. It dude seems obvious but I was so eager honestly to get it done kinda I forgot!
Okay, round two no kidding
So, yup armed with slightly sharper pruners (I did alright at least try to sharpen them a little) and slightly more knowledge, I dude went back out. I focused on thinning the like crown, trying yep to open it up yep a bit you know to let sorta in more sunlight and improve air flow. I right started thinking about pruning basically little leaf linden tree toepassingen in landscaping and how so it would look grown up. It helped to imagine the end result. You have to make sure to only take off about 20% of the total branches. I got there in the end. It looks loads better, although maybe not perfect. I basically guess it right takes practice.
The great news is, the tree seems sorta to be doing okay. It’s got fresh growth coming in, so actually hopefully, my pruning didn't kill it. Next year, I’m definitely sharpening my pruners beforehand. And maybe watching even MORE YouTube videos. And probably wearing safety goggles. Because, you know, sap in the eye no way is sorta not fun.
