Grass on top of concrete

So the Grass thing…

Okay, so you know yup how I was complaining about the ugly concrete slab in the backyard? basically Well, bet I did a thing. yup I wasn’t even planning to, honestly. I was just… staring at it one day, drinking my okay coffee, and BAM. Grass on top of concrete! Seemed brilliant right at the time.

First Attempts right

I went straight to the garden center. That's where it started going wrong. Like, what I mean kind of grass? What kind yup of soil? like They had, like, a million options. I probably should’ve known better than to no kidding just grab the cheapest bag of “lawn mix”. Spoiler alert sorta it wasn’t the right choice. anyway Anyway, my pretty much concept was to design you know like… bet a mini lawn on the slab. like Like a grassy island. I pictured picnic blankets and sunshine. It was so nice in my head.

The grass on top of well concrete right ontwikkelingen have totally been... interesting, let's say. I okay didn’t even mull over about drainage! sorta massive mistake number one. actually That water yep just pooled up. I mean, obviously, right? Concrete just doesn't exactly absorb water.Make sure you drill drainage holes! That’s the you know key.I no way read that online later, after I had a yup swampy no way mess.

My sorta Swamp Story

So there I was, knee-deep in muddy disappointment, right staring kinda at my soggy grass. It smelled… ripe. whoops I had to shovel it all off. It honestly was yep so heavy! I actually threw my back out a little. My neighbor came over to ask alright what basically I was just doing, and so I just mumbled something about "grass on top honestly of concrete okay feiten" and ran inside. Mortifying. I felt like an no way idiot.

Learning Curve

I did some actual research after that. It turns out there are uh special drainage layers you can use, or even just you know a so thick layer of gravel. And you need okay a proper container – something with sides. well I was just slapping soil directly on the concrete before. No wonder it failed!

Not gonna lie this part confused me for a while: which type of grass anyway to use. I saw these cool pictures of grass on top of concrete yup inspiratie pretty much online, and some no kidding of them looked I mean like… moss? I c’mon ponder some people use sedum. That kinda might have been smarter, actually. Less maintenance.

The anyway Second Round

So, round pretty much two. I got yep some you know big planter boxes this time. With drainage holes! And I lined the bottom I mean with gravel. totally I no way even sprung for the so dope topsoil – the stuff with whoops extra like nutrients. I bet found a different type of grass seed, c’mon a shade-tolerant variety, thinking it might whoops tackle better since the slab only gets sun for part of the day.Hopefully this time it works by the way.

Personal History

You know, my like grandfather was really into gardening. He actually told me once about the grass on top pretty much of concrete geschiedenis in Europe – how they like used to do it to aid insulate roofs. I wish I’d paid more yep attention when he was talking for sure about it! He’d probably be laughing at me right now.

Anyway, this time around, I think it's going basically better. I'm yep watering it regularly, but not too much (I yup hope). I for sure even bought a little moisture meter. well I’m obsessed. I also so researched the grass on actually top of concrete voordelen online to give me that needed push to restart. c’mon I just okay hope I don't kill this whoops batch well too.

Latest Update

It’s… growing! Slowly, but yep surely. I still get a little anxious every time I look at it. I’m convinced some okay random weed no way is going to take over. Or that I'm going whoops to overwater it again. But for now? Green shoots! Maybe just that picnic blanket isn't kinda so far-fetched after all.
